June 2022 – PCSA Senior Men made their home opener a winning one at Eastgate Park on Sunday (June 26). Goals from Emery McLaughlin, Alaa Alhamadi, Jacob Imeson and Ben Nairn lifted the home side to a 4 – 1 win over the visiting Markham Lightning to take their season record to 2-2-1 (W-T-L). The team will be hoping to keep the momentum going when they visit bottom of the table Queens Park Rangers on Thursday (June 30).
The Senior Women’s home opener will be on Sunday July 3 at 4 p.m. Their record to date is 3-0-1 (W-T-L).
What If There Was No Referee?
June 2022 – Without the referee there would be no game. Yet we are inclined to take them for granted, ignore them when they do a good job but let them know every time they make a mistake, and neglect to thank them when the game is over. Not any more.
We are facing a critical shortage of referees, or game officials as they are properly called, both locally and across the province. There is a real chance that games might be cancelled this summer because there are not sufficient referees to cover all the games. Games that do get played might see one or two officials in charge where there would normally be three, which will make their job even tougher.
Ontario Soccer has launched an awareness campaign for players and parents to manage expectations during the 2022 season and to encourage participants and spectators to be more appreciative of the “third team”. To that end, Ontario Soccer will pursue a Zero Tolerance policy in relation to Match Official Abuse. We are asking for your support in creating the most positive experience on the field for the players, coaches and match officials in 2022.
Occasionally, a volunteer parent, coach or player might be asked to step into the role of an Assistant Referee (line person) in a game. The following guide would be helpful in such cases.
If you are interested in becoming a soccer referee please visit our Referees page.
It’s a Good Sign
May 2022 – Take a look around when you visit Eastgate. There’s a fresh look about the place. Lots of bright blue paint. There’s a new vinyl/aluminum signboard at centre field. The City of Peterborough supplied the paint. Kudos to DOC Biren and his helpers who supplied the elbow grease.
A Knight to Remember
May 2022 – Several PCSA players got a taste of the big leagues (League1 Ontario that is) when they took part in the opening ceremonies at ECFC Women’s home game at Fleming Knight’s field on Wednesday evening (May 18). The U9 and U11 girls accompanied the players during the walkout parade and the National Anthem. PCSA U14 Girls acted as ball girls during the game. It was an evening that will inspire this group of young players, despite the 3 – 1 loss for the home team.
Just When You Least Expect It …..
October 2021 – The U14 Girls squad got an unexpected bonus when they travelled to York Lions Stadium to watch the Canadian Premier League game between York United and FC Edmonton on October 17. In the parking lot head coach Rich Bergman spotted Canadian Men’s National Team and Toronto FC player Richie Laryea who was also taking in the game. Richie was happy to pose for a photograph with a surprised group of the girls.

PCSA Receives $15,000 Jumpstart Grant
May 2021 – When the pandemic and state of emergency was declared in March 2020, PCSA paused all soccer programs for its 200+ families and 350+ players. This has placed a financial strain on PCSA players, families, and operations. There will be additional costs associated with starting up again due to enhanced health and safety regulations. Now PCSA has been approved for a $15,000 grant from Jumpstart’s Sport Relief Fund which is sponsored by Canadian Tire Corporation. The scheme is designed to help sport and recreation organizations build back sport and play in Canada.
“With Jumpstart’s support, PCSA will be able to purchase the personal protective equipment needed for a safe re-start anticipated this summer”, said PCSA President Dan Moore. “It will also be used to purchase a practice t-shirt for every player, further easing the registration burden on players and families. Operationally, Jumpstart will support staff honorariums over the summer, staff who have been volunteering since June 2020”.
A Sad Loss – Denise Moore

PCSA Awarded Gold Standard – Again
March 2018 – The Peterborough City Soccer Association is thrilled to announce that Ontario Soccer has renewed the club’s Gold Club Excellence status for a further two years through to the end of the 2019 season. This follows an in-depth review by Ontario Soccer of the club’s commitment and performance in the key areas of technical, governance, personnel and community.
The Ontario Soccer Club Excellence Program identifies clubs that have adopted best practices in these four key areas. Technical standards are aligned with OS’s Long Term Player Development curriculum and recognize a club’s commitment to ‘live’ the award. The program uses a three-tiered approach (Bronze, Silver and Gold). The Gold Standard is awarded to clubs that meet the highest standard in all four key areas.
PCSA is one of only 32 Gold Standard Awardees in Ontario. The Club is immensely proud of its team of dedicated coaches, managers, administrators and volunteers who collectively have merited this prestigious recognition for the club.

PCSA Awarded OSA Gold Standard
March 2016 – The Peterborough City Soccer Association is proud to announce that it has received the Gold Club Excellence award from the Ontario Soccer Association. The OSA club excellence program identifies clubs that have adopted best practices in the key areas of technical, governance, personnel and community. Technical standards are aligned with OSA’s Long Term Player Development curriculum and recognize a club’s commitment to ‘live’ the award. The program uses a three-tiered approach (Bronze, Silver and Gold). The Gold Standard is awarded to clubs that meet the highest standard in all four key areas.
The PCSA is immensely proud of its team of dedicated coaches, managers and administrators who collectively have merited this prestigious recognition for the club.
