Covid-19 Update – 8 June

The Government of Ontario has announced that it will move to Step One of the Roadmap to Reopen on June 11. Step One of the reopening plan allows outdoor sports training with up to 10 people, subject to health and safety protocols such as screening of individuals, contact tracing and maintaining 3 meter physical distancing. Local authorities can impose additional restrictions and timelines. PCSA is consulting with ECOSA and Peterborough Recreation Dept. to ensure a safe and smooth return to play as soon as local authorities give the go-ahead.

Under the provincial reopening plan, restrictions will be eased gradually though June, July and August based on vaccination rates and key public health and health-care indicators.

PCSA Receives $15,000 Jumpstart Grant

When the pandemic and state of emergency was declared in March 2020, PCSA paused all soccer programs for its 200+ families and 350+ players. This has placed a financial strain on PCSA players, families, and operations. There will be additional costs associated with starting up again due to enhanced health and safety regulations. Now PCSA has been approved for a $15,000 grant from Jumpstart’s Sport Relief Fund which is sponsored by Canadian Tire Corporation. The scheme is designed to help sport and recreation organizations build back sport and play in Canada.

“With Jumpstart’s support, PCSA will be able to purchase the personal protective equipment needed for a safe re-start anticipated this summer”, said PCSA President Dan Moore. “It will also be used to purchase a practice t-shirt for every player, further easing the registration burden on players and families. Operationally, Jumpstart will support staff honorariums over the summer, staff who have been volunteering since June 2020”.

2020 Annual General Meeting

The PCSA Annual General Meeting normally takes place in December each year. Due to the current restrictions on indoor gatherings and with a view to permitting greater participation by the members, the Board has decided to postpone the 2020 AGM for now. The new date will be announced in due course.
