PCSA Soccer Academy – October 2017

Academy Holding Open Sessions in September (2017)

The PCSA Soccer Academy kicks off its 5th year with a series of open sessions during September 2017. All returning and prospective new players born between 2008 (U10) and 2003 (U15) are invited to attend. There is no cost or obligation to participate in the open sessions, so if you are interested in learning more about the high level training offered by the Academy program this will be an excellent opportunity.

In addition to the open sessions, the Academy Coaches will be present at Eastgate 1 on Saturday, Sep.23 between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. during Orientation for the U10-U12 age groups to speak with interested parents and players.

These open sessions will be an opportunity to meet, interact, and play with current players. Our Academy technical team, led by the Head Coach Gergin Naoumov, will be there to lead the training sessions and answer any questions you may have. This will also give new players a chance to sample the Academy experience before fully committing to the program.

Academy Head Coach Appointed

July 2017 – The PCSA Director of Coaching is pleased to announce the appointment of Gergin Naoumov to the position of Academy Head Coach for the 2017-2018 season. Gergin has been a PCSA coach for the past four years in various capacities including Team Head Coach, Technical Coach and Academy Technical Coach. Gergin was also the head coach of the University of Toronto (Mississauga) Men’s Soccer Team and holds an Ontario Provincial C Licence.

Gergin has played soccer at a high level including the University of Toronto as well as the Peterborough City Men’s Senior team. We are excited about the great ideas that Gergin and his team will bring to the Academy.

We offer our sincere gratitude and thanks to outgoing Academy Head Coach Vic Rocha for his dedication and commitment to the PCSA Academy. He was instrumental in building the program from its inception up to the present day.

Sahlen Super Series Tournament

March 2015 – Seventeen Academy senior girls along with coaches and parents journeyed to Elma, NY on Saturday (March 7, 2015) to play in the Sahlen Super Series tournament. The girls played 3 games on a full-sized indoor field at Sahlen’s Sports Park against three elite teams, North London (OYSL), Lockport Lightning (NY) and Norwest (NY). This was the very first sanctioned event that Peterborough City Academy has attended. The objective was to gauge where our girls rate against good teams and to see what our weaknesses and strengths are, so we can work on improving their confidence on and off the ball. Overall it was a very satisfying experience, with the team sufficiently mastering a new system of play to earn a win in their final game.

The Academy has scheduled two exciting events that will be of great interest to our Senior Academy members.

First up on Friday May 16 is a university/college athletics information meeting at the clubhouse (Eastgate) that will provide advice and guidance on preparing for college and university from both the academic and athletic perspectives. Topics will include preparing for college/university, varsity athletics programs, creating an athletic profile, SAT’s, scholarships and bursaries. The presenters will be Stevie Gill, Women’s Soccer Head Coach, Grand Canyon University and Chris Rocha, Director, Financial Aid & Student Awards at Durham College.

The presentation will begin at 7:00 p.m. Due to seating restrictions, attendance at this event is limited to Senior Academy players (U14 to U18 Boys and Girls) and parents only.

On Saturday morning, May 17, Coach Stevie, will conduct two training sessions with the Senior Girls and Boys at Eastgate. Stevie previously played and coached at a high level in the Durham Region, hence his connection with this area. He also played for Canada’s National Teams at the U-20 and U-23 levels and has Canadian National “B” coaching certification. Needless to say, this promises to be an exciting and unique training experience for our players.

Peterborough City Soccer Academy ID Camp for Girls at Eastgate Park

The new Peterborough City Soccer Academy took to the field on the weekend (August 17/18, 2013) when the first identification camp for girls was held over two days at Eastgate Park. Approximately 65 of this city’s best female athletes between the ages of 10 and 17 years old participated under the watchful eye of the Academy coaching crew. The boys identification camp held on the following weekend (August 24/25, 2013) was equally successful.
